Song analysis (Simple man)

I chose to do my analysis on "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. This is a well know southern rock song that show a conversation between a mother and her son. The mother in the song is basically telling her son all of the things that will help him to be a good person throughout his life. This song uses ballad, slant rhyme, connotation, and lyrics. These elements are what make this song such a good tune.

I would I identify this song as a ballad because it tells a story. The story being told in this song is a mother telling her son how to be a good person and how to succeed in life. The mother asks her son to be a simple man and to do thing such as praise god. In the song slant rhyme is used very often. A few examples of this slant rhyme is when the song says young and sun, fast and pass, man and understand, and gold and soul. All of these words are examples of the slant rhyme in the son because they don't fully rhyme but they sound somewhat similar. This song also uses connotation which is a word having a secondary meaning, one thats normally not in the dictionary. A prime example of this is the line,"Forget your lust for the rich mans gold". In this line rich mans gold in the connotation because it is not taking about actual gold, it is just talking about nice things in life. Finally, the lyrics in this song really create an emotional feeling my using the love of a mother to her son.
