The Golden Compass

          Over the summer I read The Golden Compass. The reason I chose to read this book is because I heard it was similar to the Narnia series. I enjoy reading these type of books because of the adventure and the magic that takes place in the plot. In this book there is more than one setting. I enjoy this because as the book goes on you get to learn more about the different races and cultures in the story.
          Also, the way this book explains the characters feelings and thoughts is super interesting. The author makes you want to keep on turning the page. The theme in this book was to never give up on those close to you. This theme is something very important that we need to do better in our world to day. The Protagonist in this story is a brave, young girl named Lyra. Lyra has the power to control a very powerful mystical item, but must practice her skill to understand this powerful artifact. All in all this book is a action packed, magical, mystery. This is a good read for any one who enjoys fantasy. If you want to find out how Lyra saves her best friend you should read this book.

Harrison Bergeron

     Harrison Bergeron is a teenage genius who is seven feet tall. Harrison is extremely handsome. The year in this story is 2081.In this story the united states government tries to create equality among people both physically and mentally. A man called the handicapper general is in charge of doing of making the citizens equal. He does this by installing a "handicap" into the citizens heads. The handicap makes them all equally intelligent.      To the united states government of 2081 Harrison Bergeron is a major problem because he cannot be controlled by the government. Also, how is he supposed to promote equality as a seven foot fourteen year old with super model looks. In the story Harrison escapes his prison and infiltrates a live tv show with ballerinas. new semester reflection

Three thing that I learned in the fall semester that I can use in the spring semester are that tutorial is a very important and useful time, take good notes so that when exams come around you are prepared to study, and to use your time wisely especially while participating in afterschool activities. If you don’t use your teacher’s knowledge at tutorial you are more likely to make bad grades. During the first quarter I came to a realization that high-school is a big step up. So a good way to adjust to this step up is to create ways to help success like setting reminders and setting goals. You can set reminders on your laptop using the reminders app or using the calender built into your computer. You could also use a paper calenderer to keep track of your stuff. These are two techniques that I use to try to help me to remember to do my work. My goals for this semester are to make As and Bs while participating in baseball.
